Who we are is forged from where we’ve been. Whether it’s challenges we’ve overcome or experiences that have pushed us forward, each person and each family has its own story to tell.
The story of Modern Ancestry dates back to my own formative years. I was assigned a family history project in elementary school and during my research, I found a tattered photo album in my grandmother's basement– covered in a dark red velvet and decades of dust. Inside, photographs more than 100 years old were perfectly preserved, same as the day my ancestors' hands tucked them into their sleeves.
None of the photos were labeled but I knew that each face represented a member of my family whose story was waiting to be told. As we carefully extracted each black and white print from its window, a clue – as if planted for me – presented itself. Behind one of the photos was a handwritten note from 1903. As my eyes raced across the expertly crafted penmanship of a family member who lived 100 years before me – I knew. Uncovering the stories of the past was not only something I loved, it was my gift. It was also my duty.
Today, we have the tools to capture the rich personalities, the intricate family histories, and the stories of those who came before us. I have the passion, the dedication and the resources to do it for you.
